Kirkland Lakeside House: A breezy, light-filled retreat for family connection

For a family who wanted to trade a divided layout for an open-concept flow, we revamped this home to focus on intentional gathering areas and maximized natural light. A new glass-paneled entry sets a sophisticated, airy tone that reflects the beauty of Lake Washington. The sweeping great room—with its midcentury-inspired pitched ceilings and warm wood beams—opens onto a covered patio for year-round indoor/outdoor living. Natural wood tones and a palette of misty blues unite the space, creating a home that is both polished and perfectly livable.

Rich color is the hallmark of this project, with deep hues in the main living spaces and more subdued tones in the private quarters – but don't miss the canary door and raspberry ceiling in the hallway. A bold wallpapered elevator foyer makes a dramatic first impression, leading to a textured blush grasscloth-covered gallery space and a sophisticated slate blue lounge. Living room draperies in a fabric by Elworthy Studio and bedroom window treatments in a fabric by Pepper Home play up the playful edge throughout.
